Some poorly researched people on the Right - who I call “the memers” - want you to believe that all left-wing phenomenon in the West either comes from Jews or from "America" forcing everybody into it, but that's a lie. The latter claim is especially silly since liberalism, socialism and every other left-wing idea and movement first originated in Europe, taking shape during the French Revolution, then making its way to America later.
Look at the case of Iceland, a country with only 250 Jews. The World Economic Forum ranks Iceland first place in "gender equality", first on the Equaldex Equality Index in 2023, and second after Malta according to ILGA-Europe's 2024 LGBT rights ranking.
"indicating it is one of the safest nations for LGBT people in Europe. Conversion therapy in Iceland has been illegal since 2023"
Iceland legalized gay marriage in 2010 and has Pride rallies.
"Same-sex marriage has been legal in Iceland since 27 June 2010. A bill providing for a gender-neutral marriage definition was passed by the Althing on 11 June 2010. No members of Parliament voted against the bill, and polling suggested that it was very popular among Icelanders."
"Iceland was the third Nordic country, after Norway and Sweden, the seventh in Europe, and the ninth in the world to legalize same-sex marriage. Iceland has become a popular marriage destination for same-sex couples and was listed as number eight in the "Top 10 Gay Wedding Destinations" by Lonely Planet in 2014."
Iceland elected the first female openly gay prime minister, Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, who served from 2009 to 2013. She said: "The Nordic countries are leading the way on women's equality, recognizing women as equal citizens rather than commodities for sale."
Women's suffrage was kicked off by Icelandic women. They got the right to vote in 1907.
"the first women's magazine Framsókn is founded by Ingibjörg Skaptadóttir and Sigríður Þorsteinsdóttir in 1895, and a women's suffrage organisation, the Icelandic Women's Rights Association, was founded by Bríet Bjarnhéðinsdóttir in 1907"
"A bill for women's suffrage was agreed on by the Althing in 1911, ratified by the Althing in 1913, and enacted on 19 June 1915 by the Danish king but only granted the vote to women over 40... In 1920 these restrictions were lifted after Iceland became an independent state under the Danish crown in 1918"
The Icelandic Women's Rights Association "was founded in 1907 by Bríet Bjarnhéðinsdóttir, who served as its president for its first 20 years".
The group's aim was "to ensure that women received full political equality with men, the right to vote and the same right to employment as men."
Bjarnhéðinsdóttir's mission was "political rights, women's suffrage and women's eligibility in politics".
In 1908 the group helped four women - Bríet Bjarnhéðinsdóttir, Katrín Magnússon, Guðrún Björnsdóttir, and Þórunn Jonassen - get elected to the city council of Reykjavík.
The group still exists today and advocates "an inclusive, intersectional and progressive liberal feminism, and advocates for women's rights and LGBT rights" and is "trans-inclusive".
Icelandic feminists launched the "women's strike" in 1975, a catalyst for similar feminist protests around the world. It was the first major display of the "gender pay gap" logic being pushed in the public square, which is now a staple of feminist discourse. 90% of Icelandic women participated.
"Participants, led by women's organizations, did not go to their paid jobs and did not do any housework or child-rearing for the whole day. Ninety percent of Iceland's female population participated in the strike. Iceland's parliament passed a law guaranteeing equal rights to women and men the following year"
"Women's organizations spread the word about the Day Off throughout the country. The Day Off event organizers got radio stations, television, and newspapers to run stories about gender-based discrimination and lower wages for women. The event garnered international attention"
"During the Day Off, 25,000 out of a population of 220,000 people in Iceland gathered in the centre of Reykjavik, Iceland's capital, for a rally. At the rally, women listened to speakers, sang, and talked to each other about what could be done to achieve gender equality in Iceland"
They repeated the strike multiple years afterwards, including in 2023.
The strike has inspired numerous other feminist strikes in other European countries:
"Iceland’s 1975 strike inspired similar protests in other countries including Poland, where women boycotted jobs and classes in 2016 to protest a proposed abortion ban. In Spain, women staged a 24-hour strike in 2018 on March 8, International Women’s Day, under the theme “If we stop, the world stops.” Spain’s acting equality minister, Irene Montero, said Tuesday that the 2018 strike was inspired by Iceland’s 1975 walkout and expressed full support for the latest protest." - AP
The 1975 strike led to the election of the first elected female president in the world, Vigdís Finnbogadottir, in 1980 who ruled Iceland for 16 consecutive years.
"Shortly after she took office, the number of women in the Althing saw a significant increase"
She opposed the US military presence in Iceland and was "advocate for gay rights as president".
"Vigdís participated in the anti-military rallies that took place in the 1960s and 1970s, protesting the United States military presence in Iceland... Vigdís ran in the 1980 presidential election. During her campaign, her anti-military position and her opposition to a United States presence in Iceland led to allegations that she was sympathetic to communism"
That stance of hers refutes the idea that "America" forced them to adopt liberal social policies. No, anti-American European liberals and leftists do that on their own.
"JQ-only" grasp at straws by pointing to a single pro-refugee rabbi, who has no political power, and who only arrived there in 2018.
They ignore completely that the Iceland Lutheran Church has the exact same pro-immigration and pro-refugee stance as the rabbi.
"The General Synod of The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Iceland (ELCI) recently approved a comprehensive immigration and refugee policy that pledges to improve the church’s services to people with a foreign background, thereby creating a vibrant community. The policy, prepared by a working group appointed almost two years ago, sets out an initial one-year plan with a scheme to expand the work over the next four years."
The Lutheran Church is providing services and support to integrate new immigrants and asylum seekers, teaching them Icelandic language.
"Part of the implementation of the policy will include greater participation of immigrants and refugees in congregational work and making four congregations initial “special reception” churches. To date the church’s service to refugees has focused on the pastoral and personal, said Rev. Toshiki Toma, ELCI’s pastor for immigrants and asylum seekers. He serves in the International Congregation in Breiðholt church in Reykjavík. The policy calls on congregations to create “opportunities for immigrants to participate in the life of the congregation,” but does specify precisely how that should happen."
"The International Congregation in Breiðholts church where many initiatives will happen is a congregation of asylum seekers. It will receive formal status and increased financial support. The policy commits the national church to supporting the International Congregation and supporting congregations to assist immigrants adapting to Icelandic society – especially with Icelandic language lessons."
The pro-refugee policies of Iceland are spearheaded by native Icelandic politicians such as the Mayor of Reykjavík Dagur B. Eggertsson and Minister of Social Affairs Guðmundur Ingi Guðbrandsson.
The current Icelandic government is these people. The prime minister is Bjarni Benediktsson. They're all Icelandic natives with maybe one mixed person.
This is a case where native White Nordic Europeans implemented all of the social leftism in their own country. This is replicated across many European countries, so passing the buck off onto “America” or “Jews” is a weak cope for people who can’t admit that much of this was a self-inflicted wound.
Really good research. Pointing out how damaging Nordic leftists have been to their countries with little to no Jewish influence was a big influence in me abandoning Wignattery. Keep up the good work!
